Director: Karen O’Donnell Clarke, E-RYT 500, RCYT, C-IAYT
Karen has been teaching therapeutic adaptive yoga since 1996 in southeastern Connecticut. She has a passion for creating a safe and inviting experience for students of all levels of ability, especially students who experience physical challenges due to chronic health conditions, and the resulting life transitions and new beginnings. For nine years she taught therapeutic adaptive yoga for children and teens with cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, and autism spectrum disorders.
She is the creator of Therapeutic Adaptive Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis (TAYMS) YTT which has been hosted nationally by regional chapters of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society since 2003. She has produced two audio CDs, Healing Yoga for Every Body and Gentle Yoga for Every Body, and she’s featured in the video Yes! You Can Yoga for People who have MS.
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1997, Karen credits the practices and philosophy of yoga for keeping her healthy and nearly symptom free for over a dozen years. When she was diagnosed and treated for cancer in 2012, it was yoga that helped keep her sane, in particular, the practices and philosophy she received from her many years of study with Integrative Yoga Therapy. Her business, Yoga Heals Us LLC, reflects her enthusiasm that yoga heals us – on all levels of our being – body, mind, and spirit. A lifelong student of yoga, in addition to IYT, she has advanced certifications from Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Yoga of the Heart and Yoga for the Special Child.
